In 2000 I joined the Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Ambulance Paramedic Service (now the East of England Ambulance Service), where I qualified and worked as an Emergency Medical Technician (E.M.T) based in Watford. Watford is one of the busiest ambulance stations in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, and it was here that I developed my emergency medical knowledge and skills whilst attending 999 calls.

I then moved on to work for the NHS Direct Online Enquiry Service.  This service supported the 24 hour telephone service.  My role here was to undertake research for accredited medical information that was provided to patients or other medical professionals.  This allowed me to enhance my overall clinical medical knowledge.

However it wasn’t until I was pregnant, when I wanted to brush up on my paediatric first aid skills, that I was shocked to discover how difficult it was for expecting parents to access first aid courses.  So after my baby was born I decided I wanted to do something about it.  I qualified as a First Aid and A.E.D. Instructor and Assessor and started EMT Academy.  Since then I have evolved my business providing first aid courses for everyone from expecting parents and families, to schools and the workplace and everyone in between.
